The number of countries holding diplomatic relations with Taiwan has been dropping since 1971. Currently, we have only 14 countries that established diplomatic ties with us. Facing this challenging situation in diplomacy, breaking through the barriers is not only the responsibility of the government, but also of the citizens. Ms. Chia-Yu, Kuo, the founder of the NGO Taiwan Digital Diplomacy Association (TDDA) has been devoted herself into the movement.

Taiwan Digital Diplomacy Association (TDDA) aims to spread Taiwan’s message out. After running programs in Kosovo, Vietnam, etc., to help the locals and promote the name of Taiwan, the effort of TDDA can be seen on over 80 international media so far.

We invite Ms. Kuo to share her splendid experiences in citizen diplomacy and discuss the power of digital diplomacy by the example “how Ukrainian citizens operate social media to fight disinformation since the war”.

Ms. Chia-Yu Kuo

As the founder of Taiwan Digital Diplomacy Association, member of the International Affairs Committee of Taiwan Network Information Center, and board member of Radio Taiwan International, Ms. Chia-Yu Kuo started her first digital diplomacy action by launching a campaign to support Kosovo to get the national internet domain name back in 2017. Since then, Ms. Kuo and her partners developed new projects not only focusing on diplomacy between friendly countries but also boosting Taiwan’s soft power. TDDA and Ms. Kuo continue to maintain strong relationships with international media and will keep on promoting Taiwan on the global stage.
