Have you ever heard of tribespeople in Taiwan? The issues regarding indigenous people are usually complicated and controversial in many countries, and Taiwan is no exception. The social status of indigenous people varies under different policies, so as reactions from them and other groups.

Following the steps of Mr. Martin Williams, the journey takes off from the end of World War II through the arrival of the KMT government and the martial law era, finally landing in the current time. Join the lecture to broaden your knowledge about the past, present, and future of indigenous people in Taiwan.

Mr. Martin Williams

Living in Taiwan for more than 20 years since 1994, Martin Williams is a Taipei-based journalist covering Asian and Australasian gaming and gambling regulation and market developments. His doctoral thesis covered political, religious, and other developments in Taiwan’s indigenous communities from 1945, including indigenous resistance movements and national security mechanisms during the 228 Incident and the martial law era.

Since 2011, Martin has specialized in coverage and analysis of the Asian gambling industry and has presented at conferences and seminars in Taipei, Singapore, Tokyo, Macau, Hong Kong, Manila, Sydney, Barcelona, and London.
