【Security】Vulnerability Alert: Synology NAS devices are facing a large-scale ransomware attack that could lead to data encryption; users are urged to update DSM immediately to avoid the risks associated with running outdated versions.

Hello everyone:

If you use a Synology NAS, please take note: please update your DSM (DiskStation Manager) to the latest version as soon as possible.

Synology has discovered that malicious actors are exploiting a security vulnerability—for which a patch was released in December 2024—to target devices still running outdated versions of DSM. This poses a risk of your data being encrypted, followed by a ransom demand.

Synology strongly urges all users running versions that have not yet been patched to update their systems immediately. Furthermore, Synology recommends enabling automatic updates to ensure that your DSM remains up to date, thereby safeguarding both your system and critical data.
