Dear faculty, staff, and students,

According to the Central Weather Administration (CWA), Tropical Depression TD06 formed at 8:00 AM today (July 4). It is expected to strengthen into Typhoon No. 4 “Danas” within the next 24 hours and may approach Taiwan between July 6 and the morning of July 7. However, the exact path remains uncertain.

Currently, the tropical depression is located approximately 370 kilometers southwest of Cape Eluanbi. Due to weak steering currents over the next two days, the system is expected to move slowly northwest. By the afternoon of July 5, its movement will accelerate and turn north to northeast, potentially heading toward the Taiwan Strait or nearby areas. The predicted period when the approaching typhoon may impact Taiwan is between July 6 and the morning of July 7. Please remain highly vigilant and take necessary precautions.

As the tropical depression (typhoon) is expected to affect the area over the weekend, all faculty, staff, and students are kindly reminded to ensure that all windows and doors are securely closed before leaving campus. Please take necessary disaster prevention measures in offices, laboratories, research areas, and low-lying locations in advance. (A bit more preparation can greatly reduce potential typhoon damage.)

The General Affairs Division has prepared sandbags on Basement Level 2 of the International Building (IB). Please refer to the diagram below for the location. As the quantity is limited, we ask that you take only what is necessary. After the typhoon passes, please be sure to return the sandbags to their original location. Thank you for your cooperation.

Due to the influence of the tropical depression (typhoon) circulation, strong gusty winds are likely to occur in northern Taiwan. During the typhoon prevention period, all faculty, staff, and students are advised not to stay under trees on campus to avoid potential hazards from falling branches or collapsed trees.

To prevent flooding caused by insufficient drainage during the passage of the tropical depression (typhoon), the floodgates at the university’s vehicle and motorcycle entrances will be closed as necessary based on rainfall and drainage conditions. During this time, vehicles will not be able to enter or exit the campus. We kindly ask for your understanding and apologize for any inconvenience.

If it is absolutely necessary to drive or ride outside during the tropical depression (typhoon), please reduce speed and proceed with caution. Do not park vehicles in low-lying areas or outside flood barriers to avoid the risk of flooding. All faculty, staff, and students are urged to pay close attention to traffic safety.
